The subtle system represented below is also
called the tree of life in many other spiritual
traditions. It is closely linked to our nervous
system, which it keeps in balance, and after
Realisation, it actually enables us to feel the
state of our energy channels and our chakras.
Indeed, we can detect the subtle system
functioning within us due to the presence of a
cool breeze, a prickling sensation or sometimes
heat on particular parts of our hands or on top
of our heads. A cool breeze felt equally on the
fingers and the palms of both hands indicates
that our inner being is balanced and in good
condition. As the subtle system is the cause and
the support of our nervous system, it acts at
every level of our being, spiritually to begin
with, then physically, mentally and emotionally.
Once this mechanism is awakened and gradually
mastered by practising Sahaja Yoga, it becomes a
marvellous instrument in developing the
personality, allowing us to integrate
consciously and of our own free will, the
Creation from which we came.
The subtle system
The nervous system
Only the Kundalini has the power to awaken the
subtle system, which can actually be felt on your
hands, once it is awakened. Every energy centre (represented
here by a colour on each finger) can be felt and
decoded.
The nervous system provides us with information
about our physical, emotional and mental being. It
reproduces the exact state of our subtle and
spiritual being.
This subtle instrument is awakened spontaneously in
the presence of Shri Mataji, of her photograph, or
of someone whose own subtle system has already been
awakened. Every aspect of its work can be felt on
our hands, on our central nervous system. The deeper
we go into meditation, the more subtle our attention
becomes, and we soon learn to decode the precise
information transmitted by our fingertips and the
palms of our hands. It is our hands that enable us
to pinpoint the causes of any disorders we may have,
since each finger corresponds to a chakra, or to one
particular aspect of a chakra. Each chakra has
specific functions in our nervous system. Therefore
its condition is reflected in our plexuses and hence,
in the corresponding organs. What is more, each
chakra reflects a specific aspect or quality of the
Divine. Consequently, as our being as a whole is the
reflection of our chakras, which in turn are the
reflection of the Divine, through Sahaja Yoga and
Self-Realisation we come to know the Divine and in
the same way, our own Divinity.
